Festivals of Light – Hanukkah and Advent in Manufactured Home Land – a.k.a – MHVille

In the windows of some manufactured homes and other dwellings, there will be a menorah visible tonight.

The menorah is the candelabra on the top left, and traditionally holds 9 candles.

In manufactured home communities from coast-to-coast, you’ll find Christmas lights on homes, which perhaps are more properly called Advent lights before December 25th, and Christmas lights on and after that date. Some places and communities will even have holiday decorations and lighting contests.

Celebrating a holiday in a manufactured home is no different than celebrating it in a single family residence or a multiple-family housing buildings.

We won’t dwell today on the purportedly negative aspects of the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI). We will look another time at the ways they have arguably harmed honorable independent manufactured home industry professionals – and potentially millions of mobile and manufactured homes owners – by their actions and/or failures to act.

Instead, we will highlight today something that MHI did better, which was some thanksgiving related research the trade group commissioned. At its core, MHI and YouGov found that holidays are celebrated much the same in a manufactured home as any other dwelling.

Of course. They could have saved a boat load of research money, by using common sense.

This writer has used RVs on occasion. I’ve stayed in a few cabins. In terms of living, me and mine have lived at various times of my life in:

  • apartments,
  • duplexes,
  • townhouses,
  • single family housing,
  • a true mobile home, and
  • several manufactured homes. With that breadth of experience, we can honestly say the following.

You cook, clean, eat, live, and love the same, plus can routinely do so for less,” © in today’s manufactured homes as in any other kind of housing.  You’re not sacrificing as much as your are gaining.
